Upgrade is an American feature film of the science fiction and action genres. It was written and directed by Leigh Whannell and produced by Blumhouse Productions, Automatik Entertainment, and Nervous Tick Productions in association with Goalpost Pictures. It was distributed theatrically in the United States through OTL Releasing. The film premiered on June 1st, 2018. The movie stars Logan Marshall-Green as Grey Trace - a mechanic who becomes a quadriplegic following a brutal mugging that also claims the life of his wife, Asha. Grey is presented with the opportunity to walk again as an eccentric young ingenue named Eron Keen implants a cerebral chip into his spine called Stem. With Stem guiding his actions, Grey is able to walk again and sets out to solve the mystery of his wife's murder.
