Taneleer Tivan is an alien being known as The Collector. He is featured in the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is played by actor Benicio Del Toro. He first appeared in a post-credit scene in Thor: The Dark World. He took on a larger role in Guardians of the Galaxy, and also appeared in Avengers: Infinity War.
Biography[]
Taneleer Tivan was a humanoid of extraterrestrial origin. He resided on the planetoid known as Knowhere where he maintained a museum of the galaxy's most rare collectibles, which included life forms. After defeating the Dark Elf known as Malekith, the Asgardians gave Taneleer the Aeyther for safe-keeping.
Gamora, along with Peter Quill, Rocket, and Drax, came to Knowhere with another rare object of power, The Orb, which contained one of the Infinity Stones coveted by the Mad Titan, Thanos. One of Tivaan's slave girls, Carina, harnessed the stone, and tried to destroy Taneleer with it, but triggered an explosion that claimed her own life. Tivan however, survived.
A short while later, Thanos came to Knowhere in search of all of the Infinity Stones. He laid waste to the planetoid in search of the Aethyr, and possibly even killed Tivan to get it.
