South Boston, referred to by locals as Southie, is one of the oldest and most densely populated neighborhoods in the city of Boston. It is made up primarily by Irish-Americans and was annexed by Suffolk County in 1804. Southie has earned itself a reputation and being a tough and inclusive neighborhood, where residents don't care much about outsiders, and if you wanted to prove your worth to someone, you'd best be prepared to do so with your fists. No wimps allowed. Examples of the Southie lifestyle can be found in films such as Good Will Hunting and The Departed, both of which (oddly enough) star Matt Damon, who is also a Boston native.
