The Silence of the Lambs is an American feature film of the psychological thriller and mystery genres. It is based on the 1988 novel, The Silence of the Lambs, by author Thomas Harris. The movie was directed by Jonathan Demme, with a script written by Ted Tally. It was produced by Orion Pictures and released theatrically in the United States on February 14th, 1991.
The movie stars Jodie Foster as a young F.B.I. agent named Clarice Starling, who finds herself involved in a case involving the hunt for a serial killer nicknamed "Buffalo Bill", played by Ted Levine. In order to facilitate this, she must accept guidance from a unique resource - the incarcerated former psychiatrist and cannibal Doctor Hannibal Lecter, played by Anthony Hopkins. The film also stars Scott Glenn as Behavioral Sciences director Jack Crawford, Anthony Heald as Doctor Frederick Chilton and Frankie Faison as the orderly, Barney.
