A scythe is a hand tool used for agricultural purposes such as reaping crops or trimming down grass and weeds. It is considered an old-world tool, and not one that is widely used today. For purposes of farming, modern techniques employ tractors and law mowers in place of scythes. Scythes are also associated with the mythological figure of the Grim Reaper, who "reaps" the souls of the recently deceased with his scythe, in preparation for passage to the afterlife or underworld.
