A school principal is the highest authority figure in a public or private school, answering directly to the county school board. Some boarding schools refer to the principal under the title Headmaster. Principals are almost universally reviled by the student body, whom they often regard as their social nemesis.

- Freddy vs. Jason: A man named Mister Shaye was the principal of Springwood High School in Springwood, Ohio. Shaye came out of his office one day when he noticed that a student named Lori Campbell had fainted in the hallway.
- Halloween (2007): Jim Chambers was the principal of Haddonfield Elementary School. He broke up a fight between 10-year-old Michael Myers and a bully named Wesley Rhoades. He later called in Michael's mother Deborah Myers for a parent/teacher consultation. He showed her a bag containing a dead cat that Michael had in his backpack, as well as a pile of photographs of various mutilated animals. Chambers called in child psychiatrist Sam Loomis for additional advice.
