Rear Window is an American feature film of the suspense-thriller and mystery genres. It was directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock with a screenplay written by John Michael Hayes, based on a short story by Cornell Woolrich. It was produced by Paramount Pictures and released theatrically in the United States on August 4th, 1954.
The movie stars James Stewart as L.B. "Jeff" Jefferies, a man with a broken leg, who is forced to remain isolated in his apartment building. Grace Kelly plays Stewart's love interest Lisa Carol Fremont with Wendell Corey as Detective Lieutenant Thomas J. Doyle, Thelma Ritter as Stella and Raymond Burr as Lars Thorvald. The premise of the film involves the subject of voyeurism and the lead character's inability to help prevent a possible murder due to his physical infirmity.
