A pumpkin is a large orange fruit of the gourd family. They are excellent for making pumpkin pies and can also be used for sport, such as pumpkin-chucking. During Halloween, it is tradition for children to carve faces into pumpkins, turning them into Jack-o'-lanterns. It is also not uncommon for farmers to use pumpkins as the headpieces for scarecrows.
- Halloween: In the Halloween film series, young Tommy Doyle had a pumpkin that he had brought to school for Halloween. A couple of bullies antagonized him, forcing him to fall over, smashing the pumpkin. Tommy's babysitter, Laurie Strode bought him a new pumpkin and together they carved a jack-o'-lantern. In Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, a farmer's scarecrow can be seen with a pumpkin head. There are also pumpkins found on the front porches of homes in Haddonfield.
- Pulp Fiction: "Pumpkin" was a term of affection given to a male robber by his lover, "Honey Bunny". This other wise unnamed individual was also given the nickname, "Ringo".
- Pumpkinhead: In the Pumpkinhead film series, a demon of vengeance can be summoned through an act of ritualism and is known by the name of Pumpkinhead. The name is derived from the fact that the demon is birthed in an embryonic state from a pumpkin, but quickly grows into a nine-foot monster.
