The Princess Bride is an American feature film of the family, adventure & fantasy genres. It was directed by Rob Reiner with a screenplay written by William Goldman based on the book by Goldman. It was produced by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation and premiered in the United States on October 9th, 1987. The movie has a framing story of an older man reading a story to his ill bed-ridden grandson, which is The Princess Bride. The story of the book unfolds through the grandfather's narrative. The film stars Cary Elwes as the main protagonist Westley - a former stablehand turned pirate who is on a quest to find True Love.
