It was produced by Astral Bellevue Pathe, Inc. and Melvin Simon Productions, and was distributed through the U.S. by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. It premiered in the United States in Columbia, South Carolina on November 13th, 1981. It premiered in Canada on March 19th, 1982. Porky's is largely considered an iconic film of the 1980s and a pinnacle achievement in the "Great American Sex Comedy" subgenre. The film yielded two theatrically released sequels.
