It was written and directed by Sam Raimi and released through Raimi's production company Renaissance Pictures. The film opened to limited theatrical release in Detroit, Michigan on October 15th, 1981. It circulated through the film festival market before receiving a wider U.S. release on April 15th, 1983. The Evil Dead stars Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, Ellen Sandweiss as Cheryl Williams, Hal Delrich as Scott, Betsy Baker as Linda and Sarah York as Shelly. The premise of the film involves five college students at a cabin in Tennessee who discover a recording which, upon being played, releases ancient malevolent forces that overtake the group until they become possessed as one the "Evil Dead". Classic Horror The Wolf Man is a 1941 feature film of the horror genre and werewolf subgenre. It is part of the "Universal Monsters" series of films produced by Universal Pictures. It was directed by George Waggner with a screenplay written by Curt Siodmak. The movie was released theatrically in the United States on December 12th, 1941. The Wolf Man is one of the earliest produced genre films of the 1940s, and considered to be a classic of horror cinema. It turned title star Lon Chaney, Jr. into a star and icon of the horror genre. The film was re-made in 2010. The film opens with the line, "Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the Autumn moon is bright". Grindhouse House of 1000 Corpses is an independent American horror film written and directed by Rob Zombie. Zombie is more widely known as the front man for the 1990s heavy metal band White Zombie, and has also had a successful solo career following the break-up of White Zombie. House of 1000 Corpses is an homage to the grittier exploitation films of the 1970s, in particular, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes. Featured Scream Queen Jamie Lee Curtis is an American actress and a modern-day "scream queen" of horror cinema. She was born in Los Angeles, California to Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, herself an infamous scream queen who immortalized the role of Marion Crane in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Jamie Lee Curtis is best known for playing the role of "final girl" Laurie Strode, sister of Michael Myers, in the Halloween film franchise. She is also known for her work in the 1983 comedy film, Trading Places, which earned her recognition amongst fans for having a brief topless scene. She played Helen Tasker in James Cameron's 1994 action film True Lies, where her sexuality comes into play again as she does a sexy striptease dance. Curtis returned to her Halloween roots in 1998, reprising the role of Laurie Strode for Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later. She played Strode one final time after that in Halloween: Resurrection in 2002. In between those two films, she played Kit Foster in the sci-fi/horror film Virus. Featured psychopath Jason Voorhees is a fictional serial killer and one of the most iconic horror film figures of all time. Characterized by his trademark hockey mask and machete, he is the central antagonist of the Friday the 13th film franchise. In one form or another, Jason has appeared in every film in the series, though in the first and fifth installments, he was seen only in flashback and/or dream sequences. Many actors and stunt men have played the role of Jason Voorhees over the years, but none has been as consistent or as recognizable as that of stunt coordinator Kane Hodder who played Voorhees in the 7th-10th installments of the series. In 2009, New Line Cinema revamped the series with Derek Mears playing the part of Jason Voorhees. Voorhees has also appeared in several comic book spinoffs of the Friday franchise, published by companies such as Topps Comics, WildStorm Productions and Avatar Press. He also appeared in a series of young adult Friday the 13th novels published by Black Flame. Creature Feature Zombies are humans, animals or any part thereof who have died and have since been reanimated through any of several methods. They have been referred to as the Undead or the Walking Dead. Traditionally, when a human being dies and is resurrected as a zombie, they are no longer a sentient being and lack any semblance of a conscious mind. These creatures are typically driven by pure instinct or an innate primal desire such as hunger or the need to kill. Zombies are often susceptible to psychological suggestion and may be easily manipulated or controlled by those responsible for their reanimation. This is not always the case however, and many zombies have rebelled against their creator over the years. |

Slasher Horror Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers is a 1988 horror film of the slasher sub-genre directed by Dwight H. Little. It is the fourth installment in the original eight-film Halloween franchise. The film was released theatrically in the United States on October 21st, 1988 and was produced by Moustapha Akkad and Trancas International Films. This film returns to the setting of the first two Halloween films and introduces the character of Jamie Lloyd. Lloyd is the central protagonist of the fourth and fifth films and makes a brief appearance in the beginning of the sixth film. The seventh installment in the series, Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later ignores the events of the fourth through sixth films, placing their canonicity into question. Children's Horror Toy Story of Terror is an American film short and part of the Toy Story film series. It was written and directed by Angus MacLane and produced by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. It premiered on ABC on October 16th, 2013. Toy Story of Terror features the voice talents of Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Carl Weathers as Combat Carl, Wallace Shawn as Rex, and Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head. Featured Scream King Bruce Campbell is an American film and television actor. He was born in Birmingham, Michigan on June 22nd, 1958. Bruce got his start in film in 1977 with a bit role playing a police officer on a bicycle in It's Murder!, which was written and directed by his friend Sam Raimi. This is not the only time that Bruce would work with Raimi, nor is it the only time that he would play a policeman. 1981 became the year that Bruce made cult classic history with his portrayal of brash blowhard Ash Williams in Raimi's supernatural horror film The Evil Dead. Campbell would reprise the role of Ash for the film's 1987 sequel, Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn, as well as 1992's Army of Darkness. In 1988, Campbell did another horror feature, Maniac Cop, in which he played the main character, Jack Forrest. He reprised the role of Forrest for the 1990 sequel, Maniac Cop 2. Bruce's other film credits include Serving Sara, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, My Name Is Bruce, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Featured Final Girl Nancy Thompson is a fictional character featured in the original 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street where she was played by actress Heather Langenkamp. Langenkamp reprised the role of Nancy for the third installment in the series A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. The character was referenced extensively in the non-canonical sequel New Nightmare, which was intended to reflect the "real world". In the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, the character was re-imagined and renamed as Nancy Holbrook. The Holbrook iteration of the character was played by actress Rooney Mara. Nancy Thompson is notable for being the first character to defeat psychotic dream demon Freddy Krueger. Nancy Thompson grew up at her modest suburban home at 1428 Elm Street in the town of Springwood, Ohio. Up until the time she was fifteen, Nancy was unaware that Springwood had once been the site of a series of brutal child murders perpetuated by the serial killer, Freddy Krueger. Featured monster The little girl vampire is an unidentified fictional vampire and a minor character featured in the 2002 comic book series 30 Days of Night by IDW Publishing. She also appeared in the 2007 film adaptation of 30 Days of Night. She was played by actress Abbey-May Wakefield. Her true name and origins are unknown, but at a very early age, this young girl was turned into a vampire. She became a member of Marlow Roderick's brood and traveled to the town of Barrow, Alaska to take advantage of their sunless winter. The little girl vampire raided Steve's General Store and killed a man named Tom Melanson and began feeding off his remains. |
