A mental health facility is a catch-all phrase relating to any medical facility, group, hospital, clinic or sanitarium whose primary goal is the mental care and rehabilitation of patients. Many state hospitals also maintain a mental health ward.
Basically, this is where all the loonies go; the whacked-out psycho nutty-pants with the funny hair that incessantly babble to themselves and rave about how they are actually Marie Antoinette. This is the place to go to get fitted for the latest in designer strait jackets, the most exquisite pharmaceutical cure-alls and the thrill of some good ole shock therapy.
Many fine young whack jobs may even find themselves as patients at the Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital, which is located near the town of Springwood, Ohio in the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. Here, groups of teenagers are placed on suicide watch after suffering intense nightmares involving a demonic killer named Freddy Krueger who murders them in their dreams. Although staff members generally write these patients off as being Cuckoo for Coco-Puffs, they are actually correct in their assertion that someone is using their dreams to kill them. To keep the more unruly patients in line, the staff at Westin Hills would prescribe an experimental dream suppressant called Hypnocil. Although this was used only in special cases at the onset, it eventually became standard medication once the staff learned the truth about Krueger. In most cases, people try their darndest to get out of Westin Hills, such as when Will Rollins and Mark Davis successfully broke out in 2003. Occasionally, some people even find themselves in a position where they have to break back in. Will Rollins and a group of other teenagers once had to sneak into Westin Hills in the hopes of procuring more Hypnocil. Not only did they have to deal with Freddy Krueger possessing one of their number, but they also had to contend with an undead psychopath named Jason Voorhees. [1]
