A mechanic is one who affects repairs on mechanical equipment, usually automobiles. They may be employed by a dealership or service station, or may be the proprietor of their own machine shop.

- 30 Days of Night: In Barrow, Alaska, Carter Davies worked at the Utilidor where he serviced a giant mechanical shredder, which he affectionately referred to as "The Muffin Monster".
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off: Two mechanics stole the 1961 Ferrari belonging to the father of Cameron Frye and went joyriding with it.
- Halloween: In the original Halloween, escaped mental patient Michael Myers, killed an unnamed mechanic (played by producer Barry Bernardi) and left his body in the pasture off the side of the road. He took his overalls though and ditched his hospital gown.
- Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers: Ten years after killing his first mechanic, ole' Mike was at it again. He went to a place called Dead Penney's where he killed the mechanic and left him strung up in chains. He also killed the waitress in the adjacent eatery. Sam Loomis came upon the scene and found the mechanic dead in his shop.
- Sling Blade: Karl Childers developed an aptitude for mechanics and used it to secure gainful employment after being released from a state mental hospital.
- Transformers: Age of Extinction: In Transformers: Age of Extinction, Cade Yeager was an inventor and a mechanic. His skill was such that he was able to rebuild an inactive autobot transformer.
