Maniac is an American independent feature film of the horror and thriller genres with an emphasis on the slasher genre. It is a remake of the 1980 film Maniac by director William Lustig. The film was directed by Franck Khalfoun with a screenplay by Alexandre Aja and Grégory Levasseur. It was produced by La Petite Reine and Studio 37 in association with Blue Underground and the participation of Canal+ and Ciné+. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 26th, 2012. The film stars Elijah Wood in the role of psychotic stalker and murderer Frank Zito.
