Overview[]
Lydia Deetz was the strange teenage daughter of Charles and Delia Deetz from New York City. In 1988, the Deetzes purchased the New England home that once belonged to Adam and Barbara Maitland, who had previously died in an automobile accident. Lydia was psychic-sensitive and could perceive Adam and Barbara in their ghost forms. Adam and Barbara hired a bio-exorcist named Betelgeuse to rid their home of the Deetzes. Betelgeuse (also referred to as Beetlejuice) demanded Lydia's hand in marriage as payment. The Maitlands began to reconsider their arrangement with the crude bio-exorcist and eventually worked against him to keep Lydia free of his control. The plot worked and the Deetzes were able to live happily side-by-side with their ghostly roomates.
