Johnny Valentine is a fictional doorman and a minor character featured in the Wishmaster film series. Played by actor Tony Todd, he appeared in the first installment of the series, Wishmaster in 1997.

Biography[]

Johnny Valentine was a doorman who worked for Raymond Beaumont in California. On the night that Beaumont was throwing a party originally intended for the unveiling of the statue of Ahura Mazda, Johnny Valentine was assigned to guard the front. One of the late guests, Alexandra Amberson came up to Johnny in great distress and Valentine let her pass.

A second, uninvited guest came up to Valentine only seconds later. This was actually an evil Djinn who had assumed the human guise of Nathaniel Demerest. Demerest demanded to be let into the party, but Valentine refused. Knowing that he was powerless to take action against the disagreeable doorman unless he made a wish, Demerest taunted him, goading him into expressing some form of desire that he could take advantage of. He asked him about wanting to be something other than just a doorman - something a bit more exciting. When Valentine finally relented, the Djinn used his powers to give Johnny more excitement than he could have ever bargained for. He trapped him inside of a straitjacket and immersed him in a tank of water. As he walked away, the Djinn chided, "Houdini did it in two and a half minutes".

Fortunately for Johnny, the third wish invoked by Alexandra Amberson altered the past, preventing the Djinn from ever escaping containment. As such, he never had his encounter with him at Beaumont's party and did not drown to death.
