The Illusionist is an American feature film of the period romance genre. It was written and directed by Neil Burger based upon the short story, Eisenheim the Illusionist, by author Steven Millhauser. It was produced by Bull's Eye Entertainment and Bob Yari Productions and premiered at the Newport Beach International Film Festival on April 27th, 2006. It opened to limited theatrical release on August 18th, 2006 and wider release on September 1st, 2006. The film stars Edward Norton as Eisenheim the Illusionist, Paul Giamatti as Inspector Uhl, Jessica Biel as Sophie, Rufus Sewell as Crown Prince Leopold, and Edward Marsan as Josef Fischer.
