The House of the Seven Gables is an American feature film of the thriller genre. It is based on an 1851 novel by the same name by author Nathaniel Hawthorne. This is the second screen adaptation of Hawthorne's book, the first being a 1910 silent film short by director J. Searle Dawley starring Mary Fuller.
This film was directed by Joe May with a screenplay written by Lester Cole and an adaptation penned by Harold Greene. It was produced by Universal Pictures and released theatrically in the United States on April 12th, 1940.
