Godzilla is a fictional daikaiju ("giant monster") and one of many such interpretations of the character as seen in the Godzilla film series by Toho Company. This version of Godzilla relates to the Shinsei period, which has also been referred to as "Rebirth" or "Millennium" film series that were released between 1999 and 2004. This particular creature appeared in two films. He was first seen in the 2002 movie Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla and again in Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. in 2003. These are the only two films in the Shinsei period that take place in the same continuity. In both films, Godzilla was a costume worn by actor/stunt performer Tsutomu Kitagawa.

Overview[]

Godzilla is a large, mutated subspecies of dinosaur that has the ability to project beams of atomic radiation. This is the second known example of a Godzilla creature ever since the first Godzilla rampaged through Tokyo in 1954 and was destroyed by Doctor Daisuke Serizawa's Oxygen Destroyer.

This Godzilla first surfaced in 1999 when he attacked the city of Chiba in Chiba Prefecture. Fortunately, damage was minimal during this encounter, but he did succeed in killing several members of the JSDF detachment known as the Anti-Megalosaurus Force. Satisfied with the carnage he had wrought, Godzilla returned to sea.

He surfaced again in 2002 when he somehow sensed the presence of the remains of the original Godzilla. Stomping his way through Japan once again, he swapped blows with the country's latest anti-Godzilla technology, Kiryu, also known as MechaGodzilla.
