Fantasy is a genre of film. It deals with elements, characters and environments that exist outside the accepted norms of reality. As a genre, they are usually composed as family friendly films, but some fantasy movies may also appeal to older audiences. Like any other genre, fantasy includes a subset of lesser genres, which embody different themes such as high adventure, sword & sandal fare and fairy tale lore. All of your trolls, fairies, pixies, elves, giants, dragons and hobbits pretty much get packaged in the fantasy genre.
