Synopsis[]

Justin and Aaron

Justin & Aaron visit spot where their mother died.

Aaron and Justin are two adult brothers who, when they were much younger, were members of what they claimed was a UFO death cult called Camp Arcadia. More than a decade later, they are still undergoing therapy for de-programming. Aaron, the younger brother, gets in his head that they should re-visit Camp Arcadia, just so that they can get a final sense of closure. Justin, the more pragmatic of the two, is reluctant to entertain the idea, but ultimately acquiesces.

The two drive out to Camp Arcadia and reunite with everyone they once knew at the commune, which includes the community's non-leader, Hal, a clothing designer named Anna, a stage magician named Shane, a tight-lipped beer distiller named Tim, and several others. They are amazed to discover that nobody has seemingly aged in all these years. Aaron chalks it all up to clean living.

Justin on a boat

Justin sees something freaky in the water.

Over the course of the evening, strange occurrences begin taking place. Justin notices one commune member, "Shitty" Carl, who just runs maniacally along the various camp trails. Other members of the commune routinely look to the night sky, blaming their situation on some nameless celestial presence.

Justin begins to experience bizarre phenomena that he cannot explain, such as supposedly encountering some sort of "monster" at the bottom of the lake. He tries to get Aaron to leave the camp, but Aaron convinces him to stay for just one more night.

While on one of his jogs, Justin ends up at "Shitty" Carl's shack. He is startled to find Carl's lifeless body hanging from a noose inside. He's even more startled when Carl then reappears and comes barging through a door. Carl explains everyone at Camp Arcadia are caught in a time loop - and that they are forever trapped there. Carl agrees to give Justin directions back to Camp so he can get his brother in exchange for a gun, which he must acquired from his friends Chris and Mike.

Aaron on a boat

"I wanna stay here forever and ever!"

Justin and Aaron continue to experience more time loop phenomena and they learn from Hal that once there are three full moons in the sky, the ascension will begin. The brothers realize that they have to leave quickly, or risk becoming trapped in the loop with the others. Aaron actually wants to stay, citing that living forever in a place of comfort is preferable to living in the real world. Justin tells him that he respects his decision, but ultimately convinces Aaron to come with him.

As the three full moons appear in the sky, the disembodied entity that is responsible for the phenomena lays claim to the other commune members. Justin and Aaron push start their car and barely manage to outrace the entity's influence before they wind up trapped in a loop forever.

Fun Facts[]

  • The tagline for this film is "Time is a Prison".
  • The Camp Arcadia commune draws heavily from an actual religious organization from the 1990s known as Heaven's Gate. In March of 1997, members of the Heaven's Gate cult castrated themselves and committed ritual suicide in the belief that their spirits would be joined with UFOs aboard a spacecraft flying in the wake of the Hale-Bopp comet. The bodies of thirty-nine cult members were recovered by members of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
  • Actor Shane Brady, who plays Shane, is an actual stage magician. His character in this film is also a magician and does card tricks and makes a baseball take a really long time to drop out of the sky.
