Elizabeth Frankenstein is a fictional housewife and a supporting character in the Universal Monsters film series of the 1930s. The character is based on Elizabeth Frankenstein, who first appeared in the 1818 novel Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus by Victorian author Mary Shelley. The Universal version of the character was originally played by actress Mae Clarke and first appeared in the 1931 James Whale adaptation of Frankenstein. For the movie's 1935 sequel, Bride of Frankenstein, the part of Elizabeth was played by actress Valerie Hobson.
