Elf is an American feature film of the family, holiday and comedy genres. It was directed by Jon Favreau with a script written by David Berenbaum. It was produced by New Line Cinema and released theatrically in the United States on November 7th, 2003. The film stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human who was raised by Elves at the North Pole. After believing himself to have been an elf for more than thirty some-odd years, he embarks upon a journey to New York City to connect with his real father, and maybe... spread a little Christmas cheer. Elf also stars James Caan's as Buddy's a-hole father Walter Hobbs, Zooey Deschanel as Jovie the love interest, Mary Steenburgen as Walter's wife, Emily Hobbs, Bob Newhart as Buddy's surrogate father figure, Papa Elf and Edward Asner as Santa Claus.
