Biography[]

Eitri was a member of a race of dwarves that hailed from the Nine Realms of the Kingdom of Asgard. Asgardian dwarves lived in a free-standing megastruture located in orbit around the star known as Nidavellir.

Eitri, and his dwarf brethren, were in charge of a great forge, from which the most powerful and horrific weapons to threaten the galaxy were created. Eitri had a hand in the construction of Mjolnir, which was made at the behest of Asgardian All-Father Odin, and was wielded by his children Hela, and later Thor Odinson.

The Mad Titan known as Thanos came to Nidavellir, demanding the dwarves to forge him a powerful gauntlet that was strong enough to contain the energy of the six Infinity Stones. After construction of the gauntlet was completed, Thanos massacred 299 dwarfs living on the structure, sparing only one, Eitri, though Eitri did lose the use of his hands during the encounter. Thanos had his hands smelted, coating them with raw metal.

A short time later, Thor, having lost Mjolnir to the destructive power of his half-sister Hela, journeyed to Nidavellir with two companions, Rocket and Groot, in the hopes of convincing the Dwarfs to make him a new weapon. Thor urged Eitri to craft him a new weapon - a Thanos-Killing kind of weapon. Eitri re-ignited the star to power his forge and cast the mold for a new war hammer. With Thor's assistance, he forged a new head for the weapon, which was affixed to a limb taken from Groot for its handle. This weapon became known as Stormbreaker. Armed with this new device, Thor left Nidavellir to bring the fight to Thanos on Earth. [1]
