
A drifter is a vagrant who just wanders from town to town trying to eke out a living. It could be said that drifter's are homeless, but this can also be a chosen vocation as opposed to the undesirable conditions that leads one to become homeless. Such was the case with hitman Jules Winnfield who, after an eye-opening experience with a gunman, decided he wanted to retire from the business and "walk the Earth", like Caine in Kung Fu. Jules' friend Vincent Vega, described him as a "bum". [1]
Following the murder of his wife, a gunslinger named Django became a drifter, moseying from town to town dragging a closed coffin behind him, looking to avenge the death of his beloved. His endless journey eventually brought him into Mexico, where he saved the life of a woman named Maria, squared off against a Major from the Mexican Army named Jackson and stole a quantity of gold from a fort with the aid of a Mexican General named Hugo Rodriguez. A nameless Stranger, once traveled about the desolate snow-swept region of Barrow, Alaska during the sunless weeks of November-December. This vagrant was actually the thrall of a vampire named Marlow Roderick and had come to Barrow to cut the town off from the rest of the world, paving the way for Marlow and his brood to come in an feed indiscriminately. The stranger paid for his services with his life as Marlow snapped his neck after he no longer had any use for him. [3]
