Doug Clegg is a fictional pawn shop owner and a minor character featured in the Wishmaster film series. Played by actor John Byner, he appeared in the first installment of the series, Wishmaster in 1997.

Biography[]

Doug Clegg was a pawn broker who owned a shop in California. In 1997, a construction worker named Etchison brought him a large, red fire opal, which he confiscated from the broken remains of a statue of the Zoroastrian deity Ahura Mazda. Clegg immediately knew that the stone was of great value, but downplayed its worth, offering Etchison only a couple of hundred dollars for it.

Afterward, he took it to Regal Auctioneers where he sold it to the owner Nick Merritt for an undisclosed sum of money. Presumably, the ever-smiling Clegg made a tidy profit off of its sale.

A few days later, Regal appraiser Alexandra Amberson tracked down Etchison to ask him where he found the stone. When Etchison told her that he sold it to Clegg for a couple of hundred dollars he asked, "Did I get fucked?", to which Amberson replied, "Royally".

Through a series of circumstances involving an evil Djinn and the fulfillment of three wishes, Alexandra Amberson undid the events of the past few days, preventing the event in which Etchison found the stone from ever taking place. As such, he never sold it to Doug Clegg in the revised timeline.
