A doll is an object that represents a baby or other human being. While dolls have traditionally been toys for children, they are also collected by adults, for their nostalgic value, beauty, historical importance or financial value.
It is not uncommon for a doll maker or someone knowledgeable in the dark arts to find a way to animate a doll for personal gain. Sometimes such dolls are bonded with the spirit of a demon or a deceased individual and may act independently of their maker. Examples of such dolls include the creations of "puppet master" Andre Toulon, vaudeville ventriloquist Mary Shaw and criminal occultist Charles Lee Ray, better known by his nickname, Chucky.
