Die Hard stars Bruce Willis as New York City police detective John McClane, who flies out to Los Angeles, California to reconnect with his estranged wife, Holly Gennaro (played by Bonnie Bedelia) over the Christmas holiday. He meets with Holly at her company's office party at Nakatomi Plaza, but as luck turns out, a group of German "terrorists" led by Hans Gruber take control of the building, and the party guests are taken hostage. John McClane has to systematically take down all of the hostages while coordinating his efforts with an LAPD cop named Al Powell via walkie talkie.

Fun Facts[]

  • The tagline to this film is "High above the city of L.A. a team of terrorists has seized a building, taken hostages and declared war. One man has managed to escape. An off-duty cop hiding somewhere inside. He's alone, tired... and the only chance anyone has got."
  • Actors Bruce Willis and De'voreaux White reprised their respective roles of John McClane and Argyle for a humorous commercial for DieHard batteries called "DieHard is Back" in 2020. [1]
  • The character of Jake Peralta, played by Andy Samberg from the television comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a huge fan of Die Hard, and references it often in the show. The 2015 holiday-centric episode, "Yippie Kayak", pays homage to the film. The character of Doyle mistakenly bastardizes John McClane's famous line from Die Hard by shouting "Yippie kayak other buckets!"
