The Departed is an American feature film of the crime drama genre. It was directed by Martin Scorsese and written by William Monahan. It was produced by Warner Bros. premiered in the United States on October 6th, 2006. The film is a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong cop thriller Infernal Affairs by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as undercover officer Billy Costigan and Matt Damon as mob informant Colin Sullivan. Actor Jack Nicholson plays the antagonist Frank Costello with Martin Sheen in the role of police captain Oliver Queenan, Mark Wahlberg as Staff sergeant Dignam and Alec Baldwin as Captain George Ellerby. Other stars in the film include Vera Farmiga as Madolyn Madden, Ray Winstone as Arnold French and Anthony Anderson as Trooper Brown. The movie won four Academy Awards in 2007 out of five nominations including Best Movie, as well as a Best Writer award for William Monahan and the Best Director award for Martin Scorsese.
