Decapitation is the act of severing one's head from the remainder of its body. This is facilitated as either a deliberate act of murder, or as a method of execution. In nearly all cases, the act of decapitation is fatal for the individual. You can't live without a head. However, there are probably some alien races out there that can regenerate enough tissue that they could conceivably recover from such a severe injury. Robots may also be decapitated, but this does not necessarily yield a termination of their systems.

In film[]

  • Attack of the Crab Monsters - Upon first arriving at the mysterious South Pacific island, a seaman named Tate fell off the raft into the water. A crab monster attacked him and ate his head! The other members of his team pulled his headless body out of the water and covered him up.
  • Freddy vs. Jason - Jason Voorhees uses a machete to decapitate Blake Mueller's father. This scene is not actually shown, but implied as the viewer sees the man sitting silently and then his head suddenly falls off his neck. At the end of the film, Lori Campbell picks up the same machete and uses it to behead Freddy Krueger.
  • Resident Evil - An Umbrella Corporation employee named Ms. Black was decapitated when she was caught between the doors of an elevator car that suddenly began to move upwards. Later, a medic for the Umbrella Security Service named Olga Danilova entered a scientific research facility called the Hive, which was protected by a laser defense system. While accompanying her unit towards the computer mainframe, a laser beam traveled horizontally down the corridor, beheading Danilova.
