The Dark Tower is an American feature film of the science fiction and dark fantasy genres. it was directed by Nikolaj Arcel with a screenplay written by Arcel, Akiva Goldsman, Jeff Pinkner, and Anders Thomas Jensen based on a series of novels by author Stephen King. It was produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Media Rights Capital, Imagine Entertainment and Weed Road Pictures. The film was released theatrically in the United States on August 4th, 2017. The Dark Tower stars Tom Taylor as a young Manhattanite named Jake Chambers, who finds himself playing a key role in the battle to overrule the realms of Mid-World and Keystone Earth. Matthew McConaughey plays Walter Padick - "The Man in Black", who seeks to destroy the Dark Tower, thus ushering in a world of darkness and monsters. The only standing before him is Roland Deschain, played by Idris Elba, who is the last of the Gunslingers, and now must protect Jake Chambers, whose psychic abilities may hold the key towards destroying the tower.
