Castle Dracula is the fictional fortified residence of Count Dracula located in Transylvania beyond the Borgo Pass. Although its exact address is unidentified, it has been theorised that author Bram Stoker had the Calimani alps, a Transylvanian mountain range, in mind as the location of the castle.
The real-life Castle Bran is often associated with this castle, due to its imposing appearance at a hilltop in Transylvania. Efforts by the Romanian government to draw in tourists to the area has resulted in its identification as 'Castle Dracula', although there is little evidence that Bram Stoker heard of it. Another existing castle often linked to Dracula is Poenari Citadel, a mountaintop fortress built under the orders of Vlad the Impaler in the Carpathian mountains.
The 1922 film Nosferatu used Orava Castle in Slovakia as a filming location for the home of the vampire antagonist, Count Orlok.
