Black Roses is a Canadian independent feature film of the horror genre with an emphasis on the "Hard Rock Horror" and "Satanic Panic" thematic storytelling tropes. It was directed by John Fasano with a script written by Cindy Sorrell. It was produced by Rayvan Productions and distributed through Shapiro-Glickenhaus Entertainment. The movie was first screened in Japan in September, 1988, but was then released direct-to-video in United States on November 1st, 1988. The premise of the movie involves a hard rock band called the Black Roses, who comes to a small town to perform at a local high school. Those who listen to their music become corrupted by the band's demonic influences and begin demonstrating antisocial and homicidal character traits. The film stars John Martin as Matthew Moorhouse with Ken Swofford as Mayor Farnsworth, Sal Viviano as Damian and silver screen starlet Julie Adams as Mrs. Miller. Original music by the Black Roses is provided by Marcie Free on vocals, Mick Sweda on lead guitar, Alex Masi on rhythm guitar, Chuck Wright on bass, and Carmine Appice on drums.
