Betelgeuse, sometimes pronounced "Beetle Juice", is the name of a ghostly entity from the Underworld who is the eponymous antagonist of the 1988 comedy film Bettlejuice, directed by Tim Burton. He is played by actor Michael Keaton. The character was also featured in the Beetlejuice animated TV series, which aired on ABC and the FOX Network for four seasons from 1989 to 1991.
Overview[]
Betelgeuse is a crude, wisecracking spirit of the underworld who specializes in bio-exorcisms, or, hauntings. He is characterized by his dirty visage, pale white face, wild green hair, dark shadowy eyes, rotting teeth and rhaspy voice. Betelgeuse can be summoned by speaking his name three times in a row. This invocation is also what can banish him back to his native realm. When Betelgeuse is called into service by Adam and Barbara Maitland, he sees it as an opportunity to escape the burdens of the netherworld. Betelgeuse can harness extraordinary power and can alter reality to suit his whims, which makes him an effective tool to use when trying scare people out of their wits.
