Andrei Smyslov was a minor character featured in the 1968 science fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey. He was played by actor Leonard Rossiter. In the 2001: A Space Odyssey novel, Andrei's character was replaced with that of Dimitri Moisevitch.
Biography[]
Andrei Smyslov was a Russian dignitary and an associate of National Council of Astronautics chairman Heywood R. Floyd. In the year 2000, Smyslov encountered Floyd aboard Space Station One. He tried to get Heywood to reveal information concerning the mysterious circumstances taking place at the Tycho crater on Earth's moon. Since Heywood knew that the Tycho project was highly classified, he refused to divulge any information to Smyslov, despite the Russian's insistent prodding.
