Overview[]
Biography[]
Anakin Skywalker was a Jedi Knight and Padawan to Obi-Wan Kenobi, but he became tempted by, and eventually succumbed to, the power of the dark side, and thus Darth Vader was born.
Darth Vader was a key member of the Galactic Empire and apprentice to Darth Sidious. He sought out to turn his son, Luke Skywalker, to the dark side, but, during a battle between Luke and Darth Sidious, Vader turned from the dark back to the light side, and destroyed his master. Due to being struck with Force Lightning while attempting to kill Sidious, Vader ended up in critical condition and died upon having his helmet removed.
Notes & Trivia[]
- Anakin Skywalker was created by the writer/director George Lucas.
- Anakin used the alias Darth Vader after his fall to the dark side. 'Darth' is a word which could mean 'dark' and 'Vader' is German for 'father' (albeit pronounced differently), so his alias is essentially 'Dark Father', which alludes to the reveal of Darth Vader being Luke's father.
- The name of 'Anakin Skywalker' was first used in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, although, the character had appeared in the two previous films, but only using the name of 'Darth Vader'.
