2379 is the seventy-ninth year of the 24th century. It follows 2378 and precedes 2380. As this is a year that has yet to pass, all media relating to the year 2379 takes place in the science fiction genre. The 1997 film Alien Resurrection takes place in the year 2379. In the film, a team of scientists aboard the USM Auriga develop a clone of Ellen Ripley, using DNA samples recovered from her body more than two-hundred years earlier when she died. As Ripley was infested with a Xenomorph queen at the time of her death, the clone, dubbed Ripley 8, also had Xenomorph DNA mixed in with the human genetic code. The scientists aboard the Auriga sought to weaponize this biological accomplishment for military purposes. Ripley 8 found herself aligned with a team of mercenaries from a ship called the Betty. Not only did Ripley find herself fighting against her own nature, but she also had to fight up against numerous Xenomorphs as well, including another hybrid offspring.
